Topping-out ceremony at Weidfeld

Topping-out ceremony, roofing party, roof raising: This special occasion has many names. Once the shell is completed, there definitely has to be a celebration—and this time it was in the Weidfeld Neighborhood Center in Traun. After the traditional speech and tree planting and the breaking of a glass—to bring good luck ;-)—the topping-out buffet was opened. A midway assessment.

“The unexpected is to be expected in our industry,” as our Managing Director Dominik Peherstorfer put it at the topping-out ceremony for the Weidfeld Community Center. Unexpectedly large masses of clay and rubble at the construction site made it necessary to replace around 6,000 cubic meters of soil right after the groundbreaking ceremony. However, that didn’t change the schedule one bit. In October, the façades of the two buildings on the first three construction lots will be finished. In November, the keys will be given to the tenants, and the official opening is planned for February 1, 2022. By then, the façade of the health center on the fourth construction lot will also be done. Negotiations to establish a medical center are underway and look very promising; reaching an agreement by this fall seems realistic. This could then be opened as early as April 2022. Meanwhile, the tradespeople are in full swing. Contracts totaling a value of 15 million euros have been awarded—exclusively to companies located in Upper Austria.

The four construction lots of Weidfeld—St. Dionysen Community Center comprise around 8,700 square meters of usable space. The majority of this—about 5,700 square meters—will be constructed on the first three construction lots.

Along with Billa, Penny, EASY DRIVERS Driving School, and a local hairdressing salon, the Schürer flower shop has also already rented a permanent place. Very specific discussions are also underway with a restaurant operator. “Once we arrive at an agreement, about two thirds of the available space will be occupied eight months before we even officially open,” says our sales manager, Karin Klink, who is delighted with the high demand for business and office space. The City of Traun itself is also quite happy. The importance that the new Weidfeld Community Center in St. Dionysen has for the town of Traun can be seen in the high-caliber attendees of the topping-out ceremony. Mayor Rudolf Scharinger, Vice-Mayor Herwig Mahr, and Municipal Marketing Director Karl-Heinz Koll all joined in the celebration. And September will bring even more reasons to celebrate. That’s when the topping-out will be held for the approximately 3,000-square-meter health center on the fourth construction lot, which is being built simultaneously but with a later starting date.

High hopes for a quick agreement

“It is of course practical for building logistics that we are constructing the buildings one right after the other, so all the contractors can do their work without interruption,” explains Harald Schranz, our project manager for the Weidfeld Community Center. Currently, all the different trades—from roofers and plumbers to electricians to drywall builders and painters—are carrying out their work according to a precisely coordinated schedule. The installation of the 225 windows, which will take almost two months, is also part of this building choreography. This is the reason the various trades can continue to work without interruption on construction lot 4 after construction is completed on lots 1 to 3. It also ensures that the health center façade will be completed in time for the official opening on February 1, 2022. It is possible that the very first patients will be treated there as early as April 2022. “We are currently holding very specific and promising talks to construct a medical center, and it looks like we will be able to reach an agreement by the fall of 2021. Right after that happens, we can start on the interior work according to the wishes of our prospective customer,” explains Dominik Peherstorfer.

About Weidfeld—The St. Dionysen center

With medical practices, a pharmacy, restaurants, a wide variety of retail businesses and service providers, offices, a playground, and open space, the newly built neighborhood center will become a place for the entire community to meet and hang out.
